This route starts at the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and takes us up a ravine on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain through indigenous Afro-montane forests. It is relatively steep and strenuous. The route involves some light scrambling - one section requires you to negotiate a series of ladders lightly exposed to heights.
The forest gradually gives way to local fynbos towards the top and opens up for you to enjoy magnificent views over False Bay, The Constantia valley and The Hottentots Holland Mountain range. Once at the top of the ravine, there is an optional short detour that leads you to the historic reservoirs on the back table and a stunning white sandy beach (a great place for a snack break).
The route takes us to the highest point on Table Mountain (Maclears Beacon). From here we walk along the top of Table Mountain and take in the views over the city centre and Table Bay.
We end the trail at the upper cable station. We descended via cable way (weather dependant) or walk down (additional 1-2 hours).
